Lars Donath

Lars Donath (* 1980 ) is a German sports scientist and university professor .

Life

Born in Thuringia , Donath studied sports science at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena from 2000 . He completed his diploma studies with a focus on prevention and rehabilitation in 2006. During his studies in 2003 and 2004 he went abroad to a medical facility in Qatar . In 2011, at the University of Jena, he accepted his doctoral thesis on the subject of “Specifics of the aerobic exercise intensity determination and ventilatory efficiency in major depression based on cardiopulmonary performance diagnostics”.

From 2011 to 2015 Donath worked as a research assistant under Professor Lukas Zahner in the Department of Sport, Exercise and Health at the University of Basel . In 2015 and 2016 he was visiting professor in the field of health and performance at Northern Michigan University in the United States before returning to the University of Basel until 2017.

In October 2017, Donath took up a professorship at the Institute for Training Science and Sports Informatics at the German Sport University Cologne (DSHS) and took over the management of the training science intervention research department.

Donath's research focuses on the effects of exercise and sport on the body and the question of how exercise can influence the course of illness and whether it can be used as a drug. Further fields of his sports science work include age sports, exercise in childhood, health-oriented leisure sports and aspects of rowing technique in disabled sports.
