Lars Fredrik Händler Svendsen (born September 16, 1970 ) is a Norwegian philosopher and professor at the University of Bergen .

Svendsen completed his studies in philosophy with a master's degree in 1994 and received his doctorate in 1999 with the thesis Kant's Critical Hermeneutics . Between 2001 and 2005 he was editor of the trade journal Norsk Filosofisk Tidsskrift . Columns by him appear regularly in the Norwegian daily Aftenposten .

His first book publication, Kjedsomhetens filosofi (1999; title of the German translation: Little Philosophy of Boredom ), made him internationally known. In addition, Svendsen has published books on the philosophy of art (2000) and evil (2001) as well as on metaphilosophy (2003, 2004). His work has been translated into over 20 languages ​​and has received several awards, including the 2008 Meltzer Prize for excellent research and research communication .
