Vegetative characteristics

Silene sericea grows as an herbaceous plant . The leaves are linear-lanceolate.

Generative characteristics

The flowers are usually found individually at the branch ends, rarely in pairs or threes. The flowers are radial symmetry and five-fold. The calyx is 12 to 20 millimeters in size and has pointed calyx teeth. There are no wavy wings on the dorsal furrow of the seeds.

Chromosome number

The chromosome number of Silene sericea var. Balearica is 2n = 24.

Occurrence

Silene sericea occurs in the western Mediterranean , in Spain, France, Italy, on the Balearic Islands, in Sardinia and in Corsica on sandy beaches and cultivated land.
