NBC awarded the post to Conan O'Brien. Up to this point in time, 2725 shows had been broadcast over a period of 16 years.

In 2009, O'Brien and his team switched to the Tonight Show . On May 2, 2009, NBC chose actor Jimmy Fallon to replace O'Brien. The NBC owned Late Night With name has been retained.
