Lateral flexion
The lateral flexion the lateral inclination of the spine - joints . The direction of the inclination is defined according to the side on which an "outer curve" ( convex ) arises, i.e. a right or left convex lateral flexion. You can also describe it after the "inner curve" ( concave ), but the term is hardly used in this context.
The forward tilt of the spine is known as inclination or ventral flexion.
Lateral flexion of the upper body takes place mainly in the lumbar spine . The movement is limited by the contact between the lower costal arch of the rib cage and the iliac crest of the pelvis . However, lateral flexion is also possible in the cervical and thoracic spine .
