Arcade house in Heilbronn

The arcade house is a listed building in Heilbronn at Olgastraße 84.

description

The arcade house was built in 1930 and 1931 according to plans by the Heilbronn architect Ludwig Knortz and its architecture followed a prototype of a modern apartment building that was built in Hamburg in 1926. The secular building, along with the Augustinus Church and the Villa Racher, is one of the few remaining buildings in Heilbronn with style features of Expressionism . The elongated three-story flat-roof building has exterior corridors in the manner of arcades that lead to the apartments. The outside parapets and the cornice of the flat roof emphasize the horizontal. The staircase in the middle of the building is accentuated like a tower. Joachim Hennze from the Lower Monument Authority characterizes the building as follows:

In Kornacherstraße there are few, but effectively used forms that can be assigned to Expressionism. The flat roof with the surrounding cornice, the staircase with cut-out light openings and concrete parapets with underlining the horizontal on the outer corridors speak the language of the times in their consistently angular alignment. "

history

The building was owned by the city of Heilbronn. 40 apartments and a shop extension were set up. The shop extension was used by a taxi operator and later by a grocery store of the consumer society.

The city of Heilbronn released the house for demolition back in the 1980s, but it was still rented. In 2008 it was in dire need of renovation and was no longer inhabited. Protests by monument preservationists and the Local Agenda Heilbronn prevented the demolition. Finally, investors took over the house from the city of Heilbronn and began with the renovation and conversion into a combination of apartment house and guest house with a simple standard, which was completed in September 2009.

The address of the building was Kornacherstraße 1 until 2008 . The Laubenganghaus was the only larger building on Kornacherstraße that otherwise only housed makeshift buildings and workshops at times. Since the street running in front of the building was repealed by a municipal council resolution of August 25, 2008 and has since been added to the building as a parking area, the building has had the address Olgastraße 84 since then .
