Laudon's aqueduct

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Laudon'sche Wasserleitung or Laudon-Wasserleitung was a private water pipe in Vienna , which supplied the residents of Hadersdorf and Weidlingau with water.

The Laudon'sche Wasserleitung came into the possession of the City of Vienna in 1959 when the former Laudongut on Mauerbachstrasse in the Hadersdorf cadastral community with a total area of 1,727,000 square meters was acquired to expand the belt of forests and meadows . The responsibility for operational management was transferred to the municipal department MA 31 - Wiener Wasserwerke.

On that occasion, numerous grievances were discovered. The water was obtained through simple drainage pipes in the meadows , various animals and animal carcasses were found in the water tank and the pipes were contaminated with sludge deposits. The disinfection with chlorine only happened irregularly and by adding arbitrarily certain amounts.

After consultation with the health department of the city of Vienna and the state water law authority, the Vienna waterworks closed the Laudon water pipe. As a replacement, Hadersdorf and Weidlingau were initially provisionally supplied with drinking water from the city of Vienna's pipeline network, which is endowed with spring water, and from the Wiental waterworks .

In order to be able to put the Laudon water pipeline back into operation, various measures were taken:

  • The catchment area of the Laudon aqueduct was declared a drinking water protection and sanctuary on September 18, 1961.
  • On the basis of test drillings and water tests, four wells were built and the lifting systems and the water tank were renovated.
  • Although these measures hardly required additional disinfection, an irradiation system with UV light was set up.
  • The pipeline network was renewed. In addition, households whose domestic wells kept drying up were connected to the supply network. A settlement that had previously been supplied with water of questionable quality by its own water pipe was connected to the Laudon water pipe.

It is not known when Hadersdorf and Weidlingau were finally connected to the city of Vienna's supply network. On February 11, 1988, the Regulation of was Provincial Governor of Vienna on the definition of groundwater already area canceled to protect Laudon'schen water pipe.
