Laura Pina Menezes Lopez Belo (born January 29 ), also Laura Lopes , is a politician and women's rights activist from East Timor .

Career

As a student, Lopez worked as a messenger for the resistance movement during the occupation of East Timor by Indonesia .

Lopes was director of the non-governmental organization Pátria until 2017 , when she was sworn in as State Secretary for Equality and Social Inclusion ( tetum Secretária Estadu da Igualdade do Jéneru no Inklusaun Sosiál SEIJIS ) in the VII Government of East Timor on October 3, 2017 . Her term of office as State Secretary ended with the assumption of the Eighth Government of East Timor on June 22, 2018. She was followed by Maria José da Fonseca Monteiro de Jesus .
