Laureate

A laureate is a prizewinner (Latin: Laurel wreath ), a scientist , politician , poet , other artist or the winner of a competition who has received a prize (e.g. the Nobel Prize ), medal or other distinction .

Poeta laureatus was a poet crowned with a laurel wreath - an award that has been associated with rights and resources ( prize money , allowance or pension ) on the part of donors or rulers since ancient times . In the English-speaking world there is still the name Poet Laureate .

(EU) laureate is the name of a lawyer who has successfully passed the selection process of the European Personnel Selection Office EPSO for career officials, the so-called Concours. Various federal ministries offer laureates a temporary job to bridge the waiting time at the EU until they are hired.
