Career

Desbiens' career began in 1992 and lasted until 2001. He took part in the Tour de France seven times and in 1997 won a stage. On the 11th stage, the original stage winner Sergei Outschakow was disqualified for an unfair sprint. A year later, Desbiens was able to wear the Maillot jaune for two days.

In 1996 Desbiens was banned for six months for repeated doping with nandrolone and had to pay a fine. According to an investigation report by the Anti-Doping Commission of the French Senate from July 2013, Desbiens was one of around 60 drivers who were found to have been doped by the EPO at the 1998 Tour de France using a follow-up test from 2004 .
