The Laurentiuskerk ( German  Laurentiuskirche ; also Grote of Abdijkerk , German Große or Abteikirche ) is a Protestant parish church in Rijnsburg ( province of South Holland ) in the Netherlands.

history

Today's Protestant Laurentiuskerk emerged from a Benedictine abbey church . In 1133 Petronilla of Holland had a convent of the Benedictine nuns settled in a church founded by Count Dietrich II in 975 . Of the three-aisled abbey church with cloverleaf choir, built in the 12th century, only the mighty south tower of the former double-tower facade, made of tuff stone, survived the destruction of the monastery during the Reformation in 1573/74.

A north aisle was added to the nave of the church, which was restored in 1578, in 1633 and an ambulatory in 1660. During a fundamental renovation of the church between 1903 and 1923, a south aisle and two transept arms were added. On the tower substructure there are preserved parts of the old nuns' gallery of the Romanesque abbey church.

The parish belongs to the United Protestant Church in the Netherlands, which was created in 2004 .
