Lauri Nevalainen
Lauri Armas Nevalainen (born January 24, 1927 in Kotka , † July 31, 2005 ibid) was a Finnish rower who received an Olympic bronze medal in 1952.
Before the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952 , Finnish rowers had not won an Olympic medal. At the Olympic regatta, the Finnish four without a helmsman with Veikko Lommi , Kauko Wahlsten , Oiva Lommi and Lauri Nevalainen took second place behind the Yugoslav four and reached the semifinals. In the semi-finals the Finns rowed to fourth and last place, only the semi-final winners from Yugoslavia and France reached the final. The other three finalists were determined in three hope runs, the Finns won their hope run ahead of the boats from Italy and the United States. The final was won by the Yugoslav four-man ahead of the French, behind which the Finns won the bronze medal just ahead of the British.
