In the semi-finals the Finns rowed to fourth and last place, only the semi-final winners from Yugoslavia and France reached the final. The other three finalists were determined in three hope runs, the Finns won their hope run ahead of the boats from Italy and the United States. The final was won by the Yugoslav four-man ahead of the French, behind which the Finns won the bronze medal just ahead of the British.
