Lautrer Advent 2016

The Red Devils Advent is the Advent season taking place Christmas market in the old city of Kaiserslautern . Most of the stands are spread around the collegiate church and on Schillerplatz . The Christmas market is opened every year on the Monday after the Sunday of the Dead by the Lautrer Christenkind and lasts until December 23rd. Since 2009, the New Year's Eve market has been held from December 27th until New Year's Eve . The choice of the Christ child and the implementation of the Christmas market are carried out by the project office for urban events and antenna Kaiserslautern . It takes place after preselection via online voting. The candidates must be between 16 and 29 years old and have a place of residence in the city itself or in the district of Kaiserslautern . The “Kaiser in Lautern” advertising community, local retail and restaurant associations and 170 other sponsors are also involved in the implementation of the Christmas market and its lighting.

The beginnings of the Kaiserslautern Christmas market go back to the early 20th century. First of all, the Christmas market - then called the "Christmas tree market" - took place on Maxplatz in the time before the First World War . The Maxplatz was in place of the New Town Hall (now called Willy-Brandt-Platz). After the market there seemed to be uneconomical, it was relocated several times until the current location was chosen.

Parallel to the Christmas market, there is also a culture market in the Fruchthalle at the beginning of December , at which changing exhibitors present and sell products from distant countries. A small Christmas market takes place on the first weekend in Advent in the Edith-Stein-Haus. In addition, during Advent there is often a guided tour of the city about Christmas customs with the title “Vun de Christäppelcher und vum Belzenickel”.
