Lawrence Leuschner

Lawrence Leuschner is a German entrepreneur . He is co-founder and managing director of the electric scooter sharing provider TIER . Before that, Leuschner was the founder and managing director of the largest European online retailer for used electronics, ReBuy , from 2004 to 2017 .

Education and early career

Leuschner grew up in Hofheim in Hesse . While still at school, Leuschner founded the Internet platform Trade-a-game GmbH, which sold used video games over the Internet. According to Leuschner, the company developed into the largest European used video game dealer on the Internet within three years. In 2011 Trade-a-game GmbH was renamed ReBuy.

ReBuy

Under the leadership of Leuschner, ReBuy became the largest online retailer for used electronic goods in Europe with around four million customers. The company extended the life cycle of around 100 million products through repairs and reconditioning and was supported by various European venture capital funds such as Iris Capital and Capnamic. When Leuschner left the company in 2017, initially for a sabbatical and then for good, ReBuy employed more than 500 people, turned over more than 100 million euros per year and, according to Leuschner, was profitable.

During his sabbatical , Leuschner traveled through South and Central America, where he was confronted with the effects of climate change. He finished his sabbatical in California, from where he returned to Germany with the idea of ​​an e-scooter sharing platform.

In August 2018, Leuschner founded the electric scooter sharing provider TIER , based in Berlin, together with Matthias Laug and Julian Blessin . Since then he has been CEO of the company, which is now active in more than 55 cities in 12 countries. TIER currently employs around 500 people.

In its Series A financing, TIER received a total of 32.4 million euros in venture capital until May 2019 from venture capital funds Northzone, White Star Capital, Point Nine, as well as from Formula 1 world champion Nico Rosberg , who has been May 2019 also involved in the company. In February 2020, the company announced it had increased its ongoing Series B funding to more than $ 100 million; this was the highest financing round to date for a European provider in the field of micromobility.

According to its own information, the company achieved the milestones of one million journeys (April 2019), two million journeys (June 2019) and three million journeys (June 2019) faster than any competitor.

In mid-February 2020, the company took over the British start-up Pushme Bikes , which specializes in the development and production of replaceable batteries for smaller electric vehicles. The management wants to further improve its hardware competencies. In February 2020, Tier took over the fleet of the insolvent Berlin e-moped company Coup (company) . This means that around 5,000 e-mopeds, including the charging infrastructure, became the property of Tier.
