Lawrence Makoare (born March 20, 1968 in Bastion Point , Auckland ) is a New Zealand actor .

Career

The 1.93 meter tall Māori Makoare stood in front of the camera for New Zealand television series such as Xena - The Warrior Princess and The Young Hercules . Since 1994 he has appeared in films in which he played mostly villains' henchmen - including in 2002 as Mr. Kil in the James Bond film Die Another Day .

For the films The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship (2001) and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) came Makoare in three different roles in front of the camera: In the first part he played Lurtz , one of the Uruk-hai , the Boromir (aka Sean Bean ) kills; in the third part it was both the Witch King of Angmar and the deformed orc Gothmog . In 2013 he played the orc leader Bolg in the 2nd part of the Hobbit film trilogy The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug .
