Le Chant des Girondins was the national anthem of the French Republic from 1848 to 1851 .
The text is taken from a song from the drama "Le Chevalier du Maison-Rouge" by Alexandre Dumas and Auguste Maquet , while the refrain comes from Claude-Joseph Rouget de Lisle , the author of the Marseillaise .
