action

Jean Valjean wanders through a blizzard, unsuccessfully begging the multitudes of people he meets. He then went to the parish of the Bishop of Digne . There he is received with a warm meal and is allowed to sleep in the bishop's bed. Valjean thanks him badly and steals the silver candlesticks stored there and disappears. When he tries to sell them to a dealer, the gendarmerie appears. In the last scene, which is lost, the bishop claims to the gendarmes that the silver objects were not stolen, but that he left them to the tramp of his own free will.

Production notes

Of all the actors involved, not a single one can be identified today. The stage construction, however, came from Hugues Laurent .
