history

In 1895 Oskar Weigel bought the former farmhouse and added a third floor to it. A year later, the Grand Hotel Nürnberg opened with around 80 rooms and a bathroom. In 1906 Rudolf Lotz and his wife Ingeborg bought the hotel. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Grand Hotel established itself as a focal point for guests from international high society. On July 25, 1911, Lotz started an extension at Bahnhofstrasse 3 and after the construction work was completed in 1912, the hotel had 35 private bathrooms and 5 apartments. All rooms were luxuriously furnished with fitted carpets , built-in mahogany and cherrywood furniture and a telephone connection. A grill room was created to the right of the main entrance to the hotel. Conference rooms were set up around the inner courtyard, today's Albrecht Dürer Hall. The Richard Wagner Hall remained unchanged except for the chandeliers .

After the death of Rudolf Lotz, his widow ran the hotel alone for the time being, then continued with her second husband Georges Richert. Since 1921, all rooms in the old part have had running water. In addition, three new private bathrooms were created on each floor and the dining room was converted into a modern restaurant. The former grill room was transformed into the new Palast Café. In 1937 the hotel was reserved exclusively for Hitler's guests of honor during the Nazi Party Congress. In addition, an office of the Reich Chancellery was set up here in the following years.

The hotel served as the headquarters of the American army after the end of the Second World War . In 1954 the hotel was returned to the Lotz family and greats from business, politics and show business stayed there again. In 1988 the Grand Hotel became the property of the English hotel company Forte Hotels PLC . The ground floor is renovated in the style of the turn of the century . In 1996, Granada PLC took over Forte Hotels and in November incorporated the Grand Hotel into the internationally known Le Méridien Hotels brand. Since then it has been called the Le Méridien Grand Hotel Nürnberg. Since 2000, the Le Mériedien Grand Hotel Nürnberg has been wrapped in fairy lights with 30,000 lights for the Christkindlesmarkt . The Le Méridien Grand Hotel Nürnberg has been part of Starwood Hotels & Resorts since November 2005. Since 2009, after a renewed renovation, the hotel has offered 192 rooms and suites , a restaurant and several event rooms , including the Richard Wagner Hall, which survived the Second World War undamaged.
