Le Petit Provençal
Le Petit Provençal ( Eng .: "The Little Provençal ") was a regional daily newspaper from Marseille , which was published in the south-east of France .
The Alsatian Geoffroy Velten (1831-1915) and Marseilles later mayor Jean-Baptiste Amable Chanot (1855-1920) founded the newspaper La Jeune République in 1873 , which is considered the predecessor of the Petit Provençal. The later Senator Vincent Delpuech (1888-1966) became head of administration in 1933. He gave the newspaper a completely different style and added special pages on sports, culture and agriculture.
In 1940 the newspaper printed de Gaulle's June 18 appeal ; from 1941 it followed more and more the official line of the Vichy regime . On November 12, 1942, Vichy France was occupied by Wehrmacht troops ( Anton company ). After the liberation of Marseilles on August 29, 1944, Delpuech was dismissed and the newspaper was placed under the control of the socialist Gaston Defferre .
The newspaper was renamed Le Provençal , which a little later became the newspaper La Provence , which still exists today .
The athlete Jean Bouin (1888-1914) was the editor of the newspaper.
