Regulated profession

A regulated profession is a profession in which legal and administrative provisions stipulate that access to and exercise of the profession may only take place if proof of a specific qualification is provided.

European Union

The number of regulated professions varies from 94 in Estonia to 640 in Poland (as of 2014).

Germany

In Germany , for example, medical professions or legal professions as well as teaching at state schools are regulated. For the latter, the first and second state examination must be proven. The public service is also part of the regulated professions.
Most professions in Germany are not regulated.

The recognition of foreign professional qualifications, insofar as professions are regulated by federal (not state ) law, is regulated by the Act to Improve the Establishment and Recognition of Professional Qualifications Acquired Abroad (abbreviated to: Recognition Act ).
