Lea (unit)

Lea is an English thread measure that is no longer used today . It corresponds to the piece . The reel peripheral or English thread ( yarn ) was 54 inches , or 1 ½ yards (for cotton ) and 2 ½ yards (for linen and hemp yarn ).

  • Cotton thread thread = 1.571 meters
    • 1 lea = 120 yards, 1 strand = 840 yards
    • 1 spindle / spindle with 18 hanks = 15,120 yards
    • The hank, number or strand had 7 containers with 80 threads.
  • Linen and hemp thread = 2.285 meters
    • 1 lea = 300 yards
    • 1 edge = 6 leas = 1800 yards 1646 meters
