The Leach Botanical Garden is a botanical garden and arboretum in Portland, Oregon , USA.

history

The garden was created in 1931 as a landscaped garden for the private home of botanist Lilla Irvin Leach and pharmacist John Leach and donated to the City of Portland in 1982. The garden was originally called "Sleepy Hollow". The Botanical Garden was 6.5 hectares in 2009 and its area was increased by 2.0 hectares by 2011. The Leaches built their country-style mansion on the property in 1936.

The gardens

The garden currently features a diverse collection of over 2000 hybrids, varieties, native and non-native plants, including Alps, medicinal herbs, rock garden plants, camellias, and over 125 species of ferns. The property is crossed by a Johnson Creek tributary of the Willamette River and most of the land is sloping.
