Leap the Dips at Lakemont Park ( Altoona , Pennsylvania , USA ) is a side-Friction - wooden roller coaster by Edward Joy Morris , opened the 1,902th Until its closure in 2017, it was the world's oldest roller coaster still in operation and the last side-friction roller coaster in North America. It was in operation until 1985, but then had to be closed due to disrepair. In 1997, the renovation work could begin after the corresponding capital was available through a capital acquisition measure. On May 31, 1999, Memorial Day , the railway reopened.

The 443 m long route reaches a height of 13 m, but only has a first drop of 3 m height with a gradient of 25 °.

Leap the Dips has been listed as a structure on the National Register of Historic Places since March 1991 and has been a National Historic Landmark since June 1996 .
