Lebaudy Frères

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lebaudy Frères was a French company based in Moisson that manufactured sugar . The sugar refinery was the most important in France in its time. Under the management of the brothers Paul (1858–1937) and Pierre Lebaudy (1865–1929), semi-rigid airships were also built from 1902 to 1911 . Henri Julliot (1855–1956) was the chief engineer. The first hangar for airship construction was built on the outskirts in 1901, followed by the second in 1909. The company produced the Lebaudy (nickname: Le Jaune , translated: "The yellow one" because of the color), the first airship for the French army, as well as the Patrie, the first airship that was commissioned by the French army. Other ships were also delivered abroad or built there under license.

In Moisson, the Musée de la ballonnière et du Jamboree de 1947 reminds us of the history of the Lebaudy airships.
