History and structure

The Belgian logistics company Magasins Généraux de Monsin (also: Magemon), a warehouse operation on the port island Monsin in the Meuse in Liège , founded in 1937 , founded the freight company Magemon Transports , or Magetra for short, in Liège in 1971 . In order to position itself more strongly in long-distance freight transport , Magetra took a stake in the Italian transport company Spedirail in 1997 and took over Rail Route Express , which specialized in combined transport between Northern Europe and Italy . In 2004 she also took over the shipping company Transports Lambert Frèresin Thimister-Clermont and finally Lemco in Luxembourg. In 2012, the company merged with Transports Mathieu SA in Eupen, where the resulting Magetra International SA has its new headquarters.

In 2001 Magetra founded the subsidiary Rudniccy-Magetra in Gdansk , Poland, and in 2005 another in Bratislava, Slovakia (Magetra Slovakia, SRO). An important freight division of Magetra is the transport of steel bobbins as semi-finished products from steel works to processors with special trailers .

Since 2015, Magetra has continued to develop international combined transport, especially on the route from Belgium to Italy. Several times a week, entire Magetra and Spedirail freight trains run through the Alps between Liège or Bierset in the municipality of Grâce-Hollogne and the Centro Intermodale terminal in Milan- Segrate . Further rail connections are served to Romania and Spain. The company operates a branch in the multimodal container terminal Trilogiport on the Ile de Monsin near the port of Liège , from where it carries out road and train transports.

The sea freight division Magemar in Antwerp , formed by Magemon in 1994 , became independent in 1997.
