Sainte-Colombe is a Roman Catholic church in the Alsatian parish of Hattstatt . It is under monument protection as a monument historique . She is St. Consecrated Kolumba by Sens .

history

Ste-Columbe was built in the late 11th century. At the beginning of the 15th century, the Hattstatt came under the rule of the noble Schaller family, later the Rotbergs . The Gothic choir, which replaced a Romanesque apse, dates from this period. The extensions were built in the 16th and 18th centuries. In 1470 the church was subordinated to the Basel Minster . The tithe parted from 1488 the chapter of Strasbourg, Basel and the Monastery Marbach . The tower was built in the 12th century, but was given a baroque upper floor in 1772 and the helmet was added in 1882.

architecture

The church was built as a basilica . An upper floor with a bell house and chamfered corners was built on the west tower, which tapers slightly upwards and has an almost square floor plan. Baroque elements adorn the floor, which is protected on the sides by balustrades. Clocks are embedded in the gable fields in the roof area. The clockwork dates from 1765.

Not much remains from the original design as a basilica. On the outside, a gable roof covers the entire nave, the upper storeys were almost all walled up inside at the beginning of the 18th century, so that only a pseudo basilica has survived . The higher central nave has a flat roof and is decorated with stucco. High pointed arches in the crossing area give the impression of a transept. The high sides of the central nave are supported by four arched arcades on round and octagonal columns with cube capitals. The choir with ⅝-end and sacrament niche is surmounted by a pronounced vault and illuminated by pointed-arched stained glass windows with tracery . The west tower is decorated by blind arcades on the ground floor, above which there is a small oratory . An organ is enthroned on a wooden gallery above the entrance to the nave.

Two stonemason's marks have been preserved in the simple arched portal .

Furnishing

In a gusset in the northern arcades an old representation of a tree of life can be seen , which was discovered during restoration work in 1924. The font comes from the Gothic period. A crucifixion group from the 16th century has been preserved in the north aisle. The wooden pulpit and sound cover date from the 18th century.

In the church there are rich figure carvings, most of which date from the 18th century, including the saints of a Catherine of Alexandria , a St. Blasius , a St. Sebastian and a statue of Maria Magdalena . The gilded wooden altarpiece from the Unterlinden monastery is unusual . It dates from the 17th century. A crucifixion scene is shown in the center, flanked by two niches with figures of saints.

organ

The organ was created by the organ builder Kohr in 1723, restored and expanded by Joseph Rabiny in 1800 and by Claude-Ignace Callinet in 1833/34. In 1900 Martin Rinckenbach changed the organ slightly. In 1968 the organ was renovated again by the organ builder Adam.
