Eckhard Marten

Eckhard Marten (born April 18, 1961 in Göttingen ) is a German university professor , journalist and press officer . Since 2013 he has been Professor of Communications & Marketing at the International School of Management in Frankfurt am Main .

education

Eckhard Marten studied communication science , politics , sociology and law at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . He was a scholarship holder of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation . He finished his studies in 1985 with a degree in journalism. In his academic thesis he examined " The American Foreign Correspondents in the Federal Republic of Germany ". At the same time as his studies, Marten attended the German School of Journalism in Munich after passing the entrance exam . He left its 20th teaching editorial team with a completed professional training as an editor. In 1988 he received his doctorate from the University of Munich. phil. with an empirical study of the image of Germany in American mass media .

Activity as a journalist and press officer

From 1987 to 1990 Marten worked for the Süddeutscher Rundfunk in Stuttgart as a reporter for business and service. This was followed by two years at Südwestfunk in Baden-Baden as editor of the SWF1 morning magazine . He then supported the establishment of the broadcasting corporations in the new federal states and worked as chief or editor of the service at Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk in Dresden and Norddeutscher Rundfunk in Schwerin. From 1994 onwards, Eckhard Marten was head of the press and public relations department at LG-Bank in Stuttgart. After their merger with Südwestdeutsche Landesbank and the L-Bank's market business, he became press spokesman for the newly founded Landesbank Baden-Württemberg (LBBW). Allianz Lebensversicherung took him on in 2001 and made him its head of corporate communications. After founding Allianz Deutschland AG in 2006, he was Head of Communications for another six years, during which Marten was responsible for press work for all Allianz subsidiaries in Germany (life insurance, property insurance, private health insurance, Allianz Bank and Allianz sales).

Activity as a university lecturer

During his years as a journalist and press spokesman, Marten was repeatedly involved in the training of communicators with lectures, training courses and mentoring programs. In 2005 he accepted a teaching position for communication management at the University of Hohenheim , which he held until 2012 in addition to his work at Allianz. In 2013 he switched full-time to science and took on a professorship at the International School of Management in Frankfurt am Main. His focus there are corporate communication, media economics, investor relations and international marketing. Eckhard Marten has already worked as an Erasmus visiting professor at Kristiania University College in Oslo, at Kozminski University in Warsaw and at the Wroclaw University of Economics and Business in Breslau. He is also a former scholarship holder of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the ZEIT Foundation, the Thyssen Foundation, and the German Press Foundation.
