Lebedyner beef
The Lebedyner cattle ( Ukrainian Лебединська порода / Russian Лебединская ) is a breed of cattle from the Ukraine .
Breeding history
In the districts of Lebedyn , Ochtyrka , Trostjanez and others in Sumy Oblast in Ukraine , cows of the Ukrainian steppe cattle were crossed with Brown Swiss bulls. In 1950 the Lebedyner cattle was recognized as a breed.
Characteristics
- Color gray-brown in various shades, dark muzzle
- strong constitution
- Weight cows 500 - 600 kg, bulls 850 - 950 kg
- Milk yield 3,100 - 3,400 kg with 3.8%
- good weight gain in fattening steers (900 - 1,000 g / day)
There are 10 main breeding lines.
Occurrence today
Today Lebedyner cattle are found in 40 counties in the Oblasts of Sumy , Chernihiv and Kharkiv . In 1980 the total was 599,000 animals.
