Life courses between Elbe and Weser is, according to its subtitle, a biographical encyclopedia with the life courses of personalities from the area between the rivers Elbe and Weser in northern Germany . The multi-volume work was published on behalf of the Regional Association of the Former Duchies of Bremen and Verden . The editors of the first volume, published in 2001, were Brage bei der Wieden and Jan Lokers; Jan Lokers and Heike Schlichting published the second volume in 2010. With the third volume edited by Heike Schlichting, the reference work traces a total of 304 résumés of personalities from different epochs from the Middle Ages to the present, “those in the areas of administration, politics, church, nobility, visual arts, music, literature, science and handicrafts have achieved importance in the region. ”These include 19 women's biographies, the oldest is about Emma von Lesum .

The more than 1000-page complete work was published as an anthology in 2019 under ISBN 978-3-931879-74-7 . Volume 3 contains a complete index on pages 363 to 370, which does not provide information on professions or epochs.
