Lee Yeong-ik (born June 30, 1966 ) is a former South Korean soccer player who played for Lucky Goldstar / Anyang LG . He is currently under contract with Daejeon Citizen as a coach. He was twice responsible for the rise of Sangju Sangmus in 2013 and 2015 .
Career as a player
Adolescence
Lee Yeong-ik was at Korea University from 1985 to 1988 , where he trained as a defender. After completing his apprenticeship, he signed a contract with Lucky Goldstar .
Football career in South Korea
Lee Yeong-ik was runner-up with his team in his first season in 1989 . A year later he was able to win the K League . In 1993 he was able to become runner-up again with his team. A year later he had to admit defeat with his team in the cup final and was also only the second best team in the competition. By the end of his career in 1997 , he played 161 games, scoring five goals.
Career in the national team
Lee Yeong-ik came from 1990 to 1996 to a total of four appearances in the national team. One season before the end of his career, he resigned from the national team.
Career as a coach
After the end of his playing career he was at Ulsan Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Dolphin FC 2nd assistant coach. He stayed in Ulsan until 2002, when he was introduced as the new second assistant coach at Daejeon Citizen in 2003 . He stayed in Daejeon for four years before going to Dongbuk High School , where he also became a second assistant coach. He held this post until 2009. From 2010 to 2012 he was the team's coach. In 2013, Sangju Sangmu FC announced that they had signed him as the new second co-trainer. He stayed there until the end of 2015. In 2016 he became the new second assistant coach at Gyeongnam FC , but he did not stay there long. After Daejeon Citizen had a bad season in 2016 , the coach was fired and he became the new coach in Daejeon. Daejeon is his first position as head coach. Lee Yeong-ik did not remain a coach for long. On August 31, 2017 (27th matchday), he was dismissed because the club found itself in last place.
