Bill Ashenfelter

William Nyman "Bill" Ashenfelter (born October 16, 1924 in Collegeville , Pennsylvania , † June 4, 2010 in West Chester , Pennsylvania) is a former American long-distance runner and the younger brother of Horace Ashenfelter . They both qualified for the 1952 Olympics . Bill was eliminated in the preliminary run, Horace won the gold medal with a world record in the 3000 meter obstacle course . He practiced pure interval training and mostly trained with his brother, who was only a year older, at Pennsylvania State University . Bill became an American master of the AAU 1954 steeplechase and set in 1952 with Reggie Pearman , John Barnes and Mal Whitfield set a world record in the 4 x 800-meter relay with 7: 29.2 minutes in London on his way to Helsinki on .

During World War II he was with the 33rd Field Artillery Battalion in Germany. After the sporting career and a degree in business administration , he worked for the National Gypsum Company , before he with the construction company Ashenfelter Associates Inc. became independent. He was a Freemason and belonged to Warren Lodge # 310 .

He served on the Malvern , Pennsylvania City Council for many years .
