Dina Habib Powell (born June 12, 1973 in Cairo ) is an American bank manager and former government official. She is CEO of the Goldman Sachs Investment Company for Ethical Projects and President of the Goldman Sachs Foundation. From 2005 to 2007, she served in the George W. Bush Administration as Assistant Secretary of State for Education and Cultural Affairs. In January 2017 she became President Trump's advisor for economic initiatives at cabinet level , and in March 2017 she also became Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategy. In December 2017, she announced her retirement from both positions, which she completed in January 2018.

Life

She was born in Cairo and z. T. also grew up there. At the age of four, her parents, Coptic Christians , emigrated with her to the United States. The father, a captain in the armed forces of Egypt, quit duty to become a bus driver and run a general store in his new home country because he expected better training opportunities for his three daughters in the United States. Powell received her Bachelor of Arts (BA) from the University of Texas at Austin . She then had two professional priorities, one in the George W. Bush administration as head of department in the State Department (2005–2007) and the securities trading company Goldman Sachs as president of the foundation and CEO for ethical investments. In 2017, Donald Trump appointed her as “Senior Counselor to the President for Economic Initiatives” alongside Kellyanne Conway and Steve Bannon .

Powell is married to Richard C. Powell Jr. and mother of two daughters.
