The American University in Cairo (AUC) is an independent, not-for-profit, non-political higher education institution in Cairo . The aim of the university is to contribute to the spiritual growth, discipline and character of future leaders in Egypt and the region. Following the American model, the university offers teaching in the artes liberales at all levels as well as an extensive further education program .
background
The AUC is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools in the United States (MSCHE / Middle States). AUC's engineering courses are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) and the economics courses are accredited by the Association to Advance College Schools of Business (AACSB). In Egypt, the AUC operates under the protocol agreed with the Egyptian government in 1975; this in turn is based on the agreement on cultural relations that was concluded in 1962 between the United States and the Egyptian government. In the United States, the AUC is allowed to award degrees.
In the QS Global 200 Business Schools Report , the AUC business school was awarded first place in the Africa and Middle East region.
