Rania of Jordan (born August 31, 1970 in Kuwait as Rania Faisal Yasin  /رانيا فيصل ياسين / Rāniyā Faiṣal Yāsīn ) has been Queen of Jordan since 1999 as the wife of Abdullah II .

Rania of Jordan is the daughter of a Jordanian medical family of Palestinian descent. Her school education took place in Kuwait . In 1991 she graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration from the American University of Cairo in Egypt . On June 10, 1993, she married Prince Abdullah bin al-Hussein of Jordan, who later became King Abdullah II. The couple have four children:

  • Crown Prince Hussein , born June 28, 1994
  • Princess Iman , born September 27, 1996
  • Princess Salma , born September 26, 2000
  • Prince Haschem , born January 30, 2005.

Since the death of Hussein I in 1999 and the accession to the throne of Abdullah, Queen Rania has been the official queen alongside Hussein's widow, Queen Nūr . This was allowed to keep her title.

In addition to her representative duties in her country, Queen Rania is committed to the societal, social and medical issues of women and children, in particular to equality and education.

Internationally, she is involved in the SOS Children's Villages . In 2002 she received the German Media Prize , in 2007 the Bambi for her commitment to equal rights for women and against child abuse , in 2009 the FIFA Presidential Award for her worldwide commitment to the education of children and in 2016 the “Golden Heart” at the ZDF donation gala “ Ein Heart for children ”. She supports the World March for Peace and Nonviolence .

In Germany, the Queen Rania Rehabilitation Center at Cologne University Hospital was opened personally by Queen Rania in 2007 . The center for child rehabilitation is u. a. Specialized in the treatment of osteogenesis imperfecta (coll. glass bone disease ) and cooperates with a hospital in Jordan.
