German media award
The German Media Prize was an award that was presented annually from 1992 to 2016 by Media Control , a company for market statistics (sales charts). The award ceremony took place in Baden-Baden , the company's headquarters, in front of around 200 prominent guests. Karlheinz Kögel donated the media prize to honor public figures. A jury, consisting of editors-in-chief from leading newspapers and magazines, decides on the winner.
The prize is a hand-molded, painted ceramic figure on a blue Brazilian marble base. The sculpture, created by the Swiss artist Roland Junker , who has lived in Germany since 1972 , is given different colors every year and is manufactured by the State Majolica Manufactory in Karlsruhe .

criticism
On the occasion of the award ceremony for Angela Merkel in 2010, the publicist, media lawyer and former government spokesman for North Rhine-Westphalia, Wolfgang Lieb, complained that the award of high-ranking politicians contradicted the media's control task; The main purpose of this award ceremony is apparently the self-promotion of its participants.
