Kent Weeks

Kent R. Weeks (born December 16, 1941 in Everett , Washington) is an American Egyptologist .

Life

Weeks first studied anthropology , prehistoric archeology , ancient history and medical history in Seattle , attended courses on anatomy and pathology , English literature and Chinese history. He also learned ancient Greek, French and German.

In 1963 he carried out the first digs in Nubia , Arminna West for Yale University . From 1972 he taught as a professor at the American University in Cairo . Since 1978, Weeks has directed the Theban Mapping Project (TMP) (surveying and mapping of the Theban necropolis ).

In 1995 he succeeded in rediscovering KV5 in the Valley of the Kings , a royal tomb from the time of Ramses II ( 19th dynasty ). The excavations of the following years in KV5 established his fame: this grave with well over a hundred rooms turned out to be the largest grave ever found in the Valley of the Kings, laid out by Ramses II for his sons.
