Salima Ikram (* 1965 in Lahore , Pakistan ) is a Pakistani archaeologist and Egyptologist . She is an expert in the field of mummification in ancient Egypt .

biography

Salima Ikram was born in Lahore , Pakistan . She visited Egypt as a nine year old and was fascinated by the culture and history of the country. She studied archeology and Egyptology, first at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania and then at the University of Cambridge . She currently lives in Cairo and has been Professor of Egyptology and Archeology at the American University there since 2001. She has overseen excavation sites in the Aton shrine near the Karnak Temple , in Buto in the Nile Delta and in the Giza Plain . In addition, she carried out analyzes of animal remains in Dahshur , Saqqara , Tell el-Muqdam, and in the Valley of the Kings in the graves KV10 ( Amenmesse ) and KV5 (sons of Ramses II ).

In 2017 she was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
