Juan Cole
John Ricardo I. "Juan" Cole (born October 1952 ) is an American intellectual and historian of the modern Middle East and South Asia . He is a professor of history at the University of Michigan . As a commentator on Middle East affairs, he has appeared in the print media and on television, and has addressed the United States Senate . Cole has published several books on the Middle East and is a translator for Arabic and Persian . He has been writing the Informed Comment blog since 2002 .
