Blank shot

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Empty shot is the term used to describe the operation of a firing device without a projectile . The term is mainly used in the field of weapon technology, but also stands for the operation of machine tools without the intended driving out of the intended connecting elements such as staples or magazine nails .

  • Empty shots with compressed air guns and handguns can damage the gun and endanger the shooter. Firearms made of metal and plastic suffer only minimal damage, which only becomes noticeable after long use, but can then have devastating effects in the form of a bolt . Air-powered guns are only subject to wear and tear if they are spring-loaded guns. Normally empty shots are used to bring the weapon to operating temperature after inserting a new gas cartridge .
  • In archery , empty shot or dry shot refers to a shot without an arrow. If a blank shot is fired with a bow or crossbow, the bow energy is not diverted from the bowstring via the arrow, but transmitted directly to the bow itself. This leads to damage to the bow's limbs. Depending on the stability and design of the limbs, they can break as a result and the shooter and bystanders can be injured by the breaking parts.
