Leica S
The Leica S-System is a digital camera system with SLR cameras from Leica Camera , which was introduced at the end of 2009. It is not based on one of the usual formats, such as small or medium format, that still come from film technology , but uses a newly defined sensor size of 45 mm × 30 mm (aspect ratio 3: 2). The lens standard includes autofocus and electrical transmission of all functions and values.
The first camera in this product line is the S2, a camera similar in construction and design to the Leica R9 with a fixed prism viewfinder and an image sensor from Kodak with 37.5 megapixels.
The lenses are also available with central locking (to recognize "Central Shutter" to the name "CS") (1/1000 s) and can otherwise also with the focal plane shutter used the camera ( "Focal Plane Shutter" (FPS)) become.
For Photokina 2012 introduced the model Leica Leica S before. Compared to the Leica S2, the image quality and the maximum exposure index (from ISO 1250 to ISO 1600) have been increased. A larger working memory should ensure an increased speed when processing the image data. According to the manufacturer, the Leica S was the only professional camera equipped with an integrated GPS module when it was launched . The choice of lenses was supplemented by the wide-angle Leica Super-Elmar-S 24 mm f / 3.5 ASPH. , the standard zoom Leica Vario-Elmar-S 1: 3.5–5.6 / 30–90 mm ASPH. and the tilt / shift lens Leica TS- APO -Elmar-S 1: 5.6 / 120 mm ASPH.
In 2014, the SE model (also known as Type 006) appeared as a functionally identical successor to the S, distinguishable by a silver-colored timing wheel and 6500 euros cheaper. This remained in the program after the S (type 007) appeared in autumn 2015, which achieves adjustable exposure indices of up to ISO 12,500 with a CMOS sensor of the same size and resolution (37.5 megapixels) . Other innovations are the ability to make video recordings up to 4K, faster autofocus, WiFi and a recording speed of up to 3.5 frames per second.
Thanks to the camera 's focal plane shutter, many other medium format lenses can be used via adapters, Hasselblad H lenses and Contax 645 lenses even without functional restrictions, including AF .
