Leichlingen city festival

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Leichlingen City Festival takes place annually on the third (full) weekend in September.

history

On the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of Leichlingen , the Leichlingen city festival was celebrated for the first time in 1973. The first city festival only took place at Brückenplatz and the Wupperbrücke . In the course of time it grew from a few junk stalls to a real street festival, which occupied the entire bridge street. After the city center renovation, the stage moved from Brückenplatz to the newly designed market square in 1989 , and the city festival continued to grow to meanwhile an average of 100 stands per festival. In addition to the Marktplatz stage, there has also been a bridge square stage and another play area on the Postwiese since 1999.

particularities

  • The net proceeds of the festival go to charitable projects in Leichlingen.
  • Even if the name suggests, the city festival is not an event of the city of Leichlingen, but is organized by the Leichlinger Stadtfest e. V. organized and carried out.

program

Since expensive bands cannot be financed (without major sponsors), necessity turned into a virtue at some point: Through the constant search for artists who are very good, but not yet too well known, some careers could be "accompanied".

So were u. a. Mike Krüger and Bernd Clüver before their big breakthrough on the Leichlinger stages. Jokebox was also able to sign with her singer Ji-In Cho , who left the Fame Academy as the winner in 2003.
