Leighton Gary Allen (born November 22, 1973 in Brighton ) is a former English football player .

Career

Allen came to Wimbledon FC as a trainee in July 1990 and signed his first professional contract in 1992 after being recommended as the top scorer of the youth team. Appearances were limited for the striker, who was said to have headed the ball and worked hard, but to the reserve team before he left the Premier League club in the summer of 1994. In early August 1994 he came to Gillingham FC as a test player and was active for the club for a few weeks before joining Colchester United as a test player in late August 1994 . There he played under coach George Burley in September 1994 as a substitute in two games in the Third Division , but a long-term engagement did not materialize.

Allen subsequently disappeared in sub-class non-league football and played in his home town of Sussex for Ringmer , Saltdean United, Lewes , Crawley Town , Worthing and Peacehaven & Telscombe .
