The Leineweberring is a motorcycle racing track for grass and long-track races on Eckendorfer Strasse in Bielefeld's Heepen district . It is the venue for various international motorcycle competitions. The route is operated by DMSC Bielefeld .
history
The area of the Leineweberring, an old swamp area in Bielefeld's Heepen district, was leased from the city of Bielefeld in 1972 by the DMSC Bielefeld . After the association had found a home on various sites in the Bielefeld city area since it was founded in 1950, but had to give up this again and again for various reasons, the Leineweberring should now become a permanent home of the association. In 1973 the first race started on the 700 meter long oval. While the area around the track was of a makeshift nature in the first few years, the members of the DMSC Bielefeld created a professional system for drivers and spectators, mostly on their own.
Over the years, the Leineweberring has made a name for itself as the venue for various international competitions, including world and European championships. The highest number of spectators on the Leineweberring was achieved with 12,000 motorsport fans in 1977 at the final of the German Long Track Championship. The highest average speed ever achieved is 120.17 km / h .
Further use
In addition to being used as a race track, the Leineweberring is also used for other events. Flea markets , meetings of car enthusiasts, kite athletes and duck lovers take place here regularly . Since the inner field was converted into a soccer field, SV Baumheide has played its games on the Leineweberring. A rugby club also trains on the infield.
