In heraldry, the bar is a herald's image . The bar is also called thread or stick and the naming is analogous .

Two closely spaced, parallel horizontal lines with about the width of a third of a bar are delimited by the edge of the sign and differ in color from the rest of the sign area or the field area .

If the course is diagonal in the area, it is - like the bar - called a sloping bar . It is the direction Schräglinks- specified with it when the course of rearward lower front above, in the opposite direction the indication is -right- not required.

Two bars in parallel are called twin stripes, double stripes and the like ( French bars gemelles, barrulet ), three threads triple stripes .
The bar can also accompany the corresponding (normal-thick) bar , form a hem , or be placed on it, see bars: twin bars and thread / bar / sticks .

Otherwise, all the rules for the bar apply analogously to cuts such as wavy strips or tinging (coloring) and relation to other heraldic figures.
