Achievement badge of the DRK "Ready to medically secure national defense"

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The DRK's badge of achievement "Ready to medically secure national defense" was an award from the German Red Cross in the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was donated in three stages, bronze , silver and gold . The creation of this badge goes back to the basic idea of including the citizens of the GDR, especially the youth, for medical security in the case of national defense. The 24 mm oval badge shows the Geneva cross in the middle on a white enamelled background. This symbolism is encompassed by two laurel branches that are crossed at the bottom and bent upwards. They are three-leafed up to 1/4 of the height and then consist of two leaves. The letters GDR are embossed in the wider, lower margin . The back is smooth and shows a horizontally or vertically soldered needle with a counter-hook.
