Lelex (King of Sparta)

Lelex ( Greek  Λέλεξ ) was the first king of Sparta according to Greek mythology and is known as the native of Laconia . Laconia was then called Lelegia after him.

He married the Naiad Kleochareia or another narration Peridia. Lelex was the father of Myles , Polykaon , Bomolochus and Therapne . He is also known as the father of the Eurotas . According to Pausanias , the hero Iops was born in Sparta in his day.

After Lelex's death, his son Myles became King of Sparta. Lelex was later revered as a hero and a heroon was established for him in Sparta .
