Lemming Project (German: Lemming Project) was a German death metal band from Menden .

history

Lemming Project was founded in 1986, making them one of the first German death metal bands ever. In 1991 a self-financed promotional split single was released with the English band Skyclad . In the same year the debut Extinction was released. The second album Hate and Despise was also distributed in the USA through Century Media Records. Lemming Project toured Germany and Europe with Eisenvater and Pungent Stench , among others . The band broke up in 1995.

Thorsten Zielert and Michael Schmale founded the band Progeria after the split . In addition to Lemming Project, Hendrijk Vangerow and Volker Schmitz founded the band Sons of Tarantula , which existed until 2007. Hendrijk Vangerow (aka “Van der Lubbe”) has been a singer with Grober Knüppel since 2008 .

Michael Schmale, guitarist, songwriter and head of the band, gave Lemming Project its unmistakable style. Michael Schmale died of organ failure in February 2005 at the age of 33.

style

Markus Müller stated in Rock Hard that the band was able to combine "melody and brutality", but that this was not exceptional and, moreover, sounded less monotonous and seemed artificial in other bands. His colleague Götz Kühnemund, on the other hand, liked the uncompromising way that other bands often fail.
