Pungent Stench (English, freely translated "acrid stink") is a death metal band from Austria .

history

The band was formed in February 1988 and split up in 1995 and 2007, and reunited in 2000 and 2013. Outside Austria, the band became aware as early as 1989 when a split album with Disharmonic Orchestra was released. Especially the somewhat morbid humor on For God Your Soul ... For Me Your Flesh gives Pungent Stench its own character.

The album Been Caught Buttering with morbid artwork went one step further ( Splatterday Night Fever is a good example ). As with For God Your Soul ... For Me Your Flesh , the cover of the album was created by photographer Joel-Peter Witkin and shows a severed, partially rotten head that has been sawed into two parts. The band also developed musically. Tours in Europe and the USA followed. A European tour with Type O Negative in late 1991 was canceled due to controversy in the music press about Type O Negative.

In 1993 the EP Dirty Rhymes and Psychotronic Beats was released , on which a cover version of the title Why Can the Bodies Fly is included, the original version of which comes from the one-hit Wonder Warning . The video "Viva La Muerte" was also released, followed by the 1994 album Club Mondo Bizarre - For Members Only . The lyrical focus of the band was meanwhile more on S / M and extreme sexual inclinations. After a 3-month US tour, the band broke up in 1995.

In 1997 the band Praise released the Names of the musical Assassins , a phonogram with 19 rare tracks from samplers, unreleased studio recordings, etc., on Nuclear Blast . In the booklet the band announced that this would be the last chapter in the band's history. Singer Martin Schirenc founded another band called Hollenthon , which specialized in much more catchy Death Metal with classical instruments. Hollenthon released the two albums Domus mundi and With vilest of worms to dwell .

In autumn 2000 the band formed again to release Masters of Moral - Servants of Sin as a new album in 2001 , which was again heavily influenced by Death Metal. As a replacement for Jacek Perkowski, Marius Mausna von Belphegor took over the bass.

Bassist Reverend Mausna left Pungent Stench in February 2004 because he wanted to concentrate more on his new band Collapse 7 , but still played the upcoming shows with his two colleagues. The new album Ampeauty was released on September 6th, 2004, and a new bass player was found in Fabio Testi. He had to leave the band after a few months due to personal differences. Mausna was convinced again to play the entire Ampeauty tour with the band in 2005 , but left the band as a father due to family obligations. Most recently they were with him in early 2006 with freezing rain from Tambach-Dietharz on “Prosti Tour”.

His place was taken by El Gore, guitarist of the Viennese black metal band Defender KFS , with whom the US tour scheduled for May 2006 had already been completed.

In August 2007, Martin "El Cochino" Schirenc announced that the band had broken up again. Scheduled shows have been canceled.

According to Martin Schirenc, he still wants to release the new album. However, it is not yet certain when and by which band it will be released.

At the end of 2013 the band reunited. The band's first official appearance in six years took place on December 13, 2013 at the Eindhoven Metal Meeting in the Netherlands .
