Lengguru

Lengguru is a karst mountain range in the Indonesian western part of New Guinea , in the administrative district of Kaimana ( Papua Barat Province ). Its area is 35,000 km², making it about four times the size of Corsica . The mountain range is named after the river of the same name .

Overview

Lengguru is little explored and has never been permanently settled by humans. The area is characterized by a high level of biodiversity , with many species being endemic . Among other things, the crowned pigeon , the largest living pigeon in the world, is found here .

Maritime region

The sea off the coast of Lengguru is part of the Coral Triangle . Some endangered species can be found here, such as representatives of carpet sharks . It also has other special features - such as sedentary whale sharks . Otherwise this species migrates.
